The Huddersfield Change Project was founded in November 2015 by a local resident, Dave Kennedy.
It was inspired by a friend of Dave's that posted a Facebook status. It was winter time, and as she watched the snow fall outside, she felt guilty, being warm and snug. She wished she could do more to help those living on the streets.
Dave and his friend decided to organise a collection of blankets and other essentials.
They gave these out to rough sleepers in our home town of Huddersfield,West Yorkshire.
The Change Project has recruited a team of dedicated volunteers. We assist in variety of ways - from a filled rucksack project on Christmas Eve, to acquiring and distributing a collection of sleeping bags, we are rapidly expanding in our work.
The Change project's reputation is spreading - we are becoming firmly established within the community.
The Huddersfield Project's main priority aim is to help anyone in need.
We also aim to work with as many of the established groups as possible and to provide a network of support for all issues, ranging from homelessness, mental health issues, addiction support and other areas such as debt management and peer support.
We set up a crowd funding project in December 2016 to raise £5000.
This will enable us to establish a firm base for the project, plus we are looking to set up a soup kitchen or a mobile soup unit, and a junk food cafe. This is where supermarkets donate best before food, but it's still fine to eat. Staff use this to make meals and customers only pay what they think the meal is worth.
We always need donations of sleeping bags, blankets, coats, gloves, scarves, hats, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes and toiletries.
We always need donations of sweets, chocolate bars, biscuits, sachets of coffee, hot chocolate and cup a soups.
We always need volunteers.
